President Bush and the Economy- BFFs

This week Bush discussed the economy with a rather optimistic point of view. He also detailed what he believed to be the fundamental solutions to fixing the crisis without delving into how we would come about such solutions. Bush states that we must make credit more affordable and that he is concerned about what is going to happen to the automobile companies. After reading Bush's speech, I feel somewhat robbed of three minutes of my life because there was nothing of substance in it. As the weeks go by less and less news seems to come up about President Bush and I can't wait until he pardons someone very interesting or controversial so that I have something to write about. I wish more of the President's speeches went into great detail about why and how we must do things instead of just stating they need to be done.

First and foremost I would like to commend you for your use of BFFs, secondly I have to agree with you. President Bush truly has seemed to just lay down and let his job pass him by. I guess it must be disappointing to see an entire nation overjoyed with the fact that you will no longer be President. With that thought in mind it is almost possible to feel sympathy for Bush, then you remember what he's done and all that disappears. I hope that your wish for some stupid/controversial action from Bush doesn't come true, and that he just rolls over and does nothing until Obama takes office.

The last part of a term is always hard for a lame duck president. That term exists for a reason. Congress doesn't want to do anything until the new president shows up, and the sitting president doesn't want to step on the president-elect's toes. I would think it would be relatively common to kind of stop doing stuff after the election. An economic turnaround plan requires a timetable of years, and since I can guarantee that Obama and Bush don't completely agree on one, nothing is going to happen until the Inauguration.

What's next for our friend George W. Bush? Will our unpopular President resurface as an oil executive, continue his political career, or simply retire to his beloved Texas ranch? Personally, I believe that he will stay in the public eye as some sort of envoy. Perhaps he will even attempt to save his page in history books by taking on a Jimmy Carter like post-presidential agenda.
